History: Haberdasher Square Lofts, a Neo-Gothic 226-unit condominium building, was designed by noted architect Alfred S. Alschuler (portfolio). Construction of the building began in 1925. It is one of a few Alschuler buildings that has not been demolished. One of the most evocative of Alschuler's extant buildings is the London Guarantee Building, remarkable for the templetto on the top, gracefully setting off the curved ediface, located on East Wacker and North Michigan.
Two buildings make up Haberdasher Square Lofts. The taller of the two was the original world headquarters of AB Dick, until it was bought by Hart Schaffner & Marx. In the early 1930s, four and a half floors were added to the original 8 story building. The shorter complex was home to Wurlitizer Juke Box Company. Both buildings are now combined to form the Haberdasher Square Lofts Condominium Association, which was converted to lofts in 1995.
Project development: The rehab project was the first in the area east of the expressway and was undertaken by the team of American Invesco as investors, Pappageorge/Haymes as designers and Linn-Mathes as general contractors. The building enjoys a reputation for quality finishes, fine amenities, outstanding architectural details and a lively and engaged community of residents.
